Task before development
Create an application for a GPS monitoring service that provides the ability to track the status of monitored objects: vehicles, special equipment, warehouses and other moving or static objects.
This service works in B2B and B2C markets. It allows you to answer which of your employees stayed in one place for a long time and where. Who did not go along the route, or went over the speed limit. Monitor fuel level, battery charge and other sensors.
You can also use it to keep track of how your children go to school and return home.
We study the service, collect functional requirements
All monitoring tasks are solved through the site, where there is a lot of functionality. Our task is to highlight the most important functions, understand the specifics of use (when and what exactly the user needs) and prioritise.
The project has many features. Based on the collected data, we build graphs. In tables, we can move and hide columns. Reports are created for a fixed period of time, the report can be sent by mail. You can create and edit tracking objects. Set geo-zones – areas on the map to which events are attached. Objects come in different types: animals, people, cars or real estate.
Prototype development
At this stage, we form the vision of the whole project. The prototype helps to develop scenarios for working with the application. We make interactive prototypes that you can run on the device and walk through the entire application, evaluate the usability and get an accurate idea of what the final result will be.
The task of the prototype is to show all unique states in a simplified form, at this stage the application logic is being worked out. We solve such questions: what will be the menu of the application? What items will be on the menu? How will the application map work? What elements will be on the map and what happens if we click on them?
On the prototype, the graphical representation is greatly simplified, it does not matter to us what colour the button or icon will be, but the important thing is what happens if we click on it.
The prototype is designed for landscape and portrait mode.
Adding Animations
Animations are a good tool for building connections between screens or states. We make them in the process of creating a prototype, but we pay special attention to this issue.
Choice of design concept
On the example of two pages from the prototype, we show different stylistic solutions and offer the client a choice.
Design of all pages
According to the chosen concept, we draw the remaining pages.
In the process of drawing, we look at each drawn screen on the device. How the screen looks on the computer monitor and in the hands on the device is a completely different feeling and perception. This is how we encourage customers to evaluate designs.

We decided to make landscape and portrait states to make working with the map and reports even more convenient.

We offered the client a choice of several different options for the app icon.
Application Development
We draw up a complete list of the requirements and functions of the application in a separate file «Terms of Reference» — this is 70 pages, where everything is described to the smallest detail. Thus, the customer receives a complete list of all tasks and helps to control the execution of the project.
This application needs the Internet to fully work, otherwise nothing. All data is taken from the server, which collects sensor values and converts them into human-readable data, which is then transferred to the application. But we can cache already received data so that they can be used even without a network connection.
